Our History

The view in "The Looking Glass" takes us back thirty years to the beginning of what is now known as Edmond Family Counseling. You can see concerned parents interested in finding a safe place for Edmond youth to gather after a drug related murder of a 13- year- old. The old rectory from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church was the first home of "The Looking Glass", a youth center for the teens of Edmond. The center was primarily an activity center, giving teens a place to go and just "hang out".

The Looking Glass transitioned into Edmond Youth Council, where it remained an activity center but with a counseling component for prevention and intervention services for adolescents and their families. At the twentieth anniversary of the organization, the name was changed to Edmond Family Services to better denote the range of services now offered by the agency.

Through the generous efforts of many Edmond citizens, contracts with the city of Edmond, Edmond Public Schools, and the State of Oklahoma, Edmond Family Services has evolved into a counseling center that is second to none. What began as a recreational center for youth has evolved into a full-range counseling center providing individual and family counseling for a variety of issues.

In June 2005, Edmond Family Services changed their name to Edmond Family Counseling to better describe services provided. EFC provides the opportunity for quality counseling services to clients at an affordable cost. The agency employs only counselors with Master's degrees and provides training to interns working on their Master's degrees or licenses.

The view in the looking glass today shows the thousands of faces of those who have found hope, comfort, and purpose through the efforts of so many more than thirty years ago.
